How do I calculate irregular room shapes?
For irregular room shapes, break the area into regular shapes (rectangles, triangles, etc.), calculate each area separately, and then add them together. Our advanced Room Size Calculator Pro (coming soon) will allow you to input multiple measurements for complex room shapes and automatically calculate the total area.

Perfect Lighting Formula
Calculate the ideal amount of lighting for any room using the simple formula: room square footage × 1.5 = required wattage. For task areas like kitchens or offices, multiply by 2.5 instead.
Paint Color Selection
When selecting paint colors, remember that colors appear darker on walls than they do on sample cards. It's generally safe to choose a shade lighter than what you think you want.
Furniture Spacing
Allow at least 30-36 inches of walking space in high-traffic areas. For conversation areas, place seating no more than 8 feet apart to maintain comfortable interaction distances.
Rug Sizing
For living rooms, your area rug should be large enough that at least the front legs of all furniture pieces rest on it. In dining rooms, allow 24 inches of rug beyond the table edge.
